Nov 2nd, 2021

It's that time of the year where apples are in season and you can create a variety of delicious recipes from pies to cobblers to bread. We put together this easy-to-make Apple Crisp that uses fresh fall produce from local farmers on Market Wagon.

Ingredients (Serves 6):

  • 6 granny smith apples, peeled & sliced (you can use any variety you like that’s good for baking)
  • 1 1⁄4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1⁄2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 3⁄4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup cold butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F
  2. Butter or spray with non-stick spray an 8x8 baking dish and set aside
  3. In a mixing bowl, mix sliced apples, 1/2c brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, and lemon juice
  4. In a separate mixing bowl, mix the flour, 3⁄4 cup brown sugar, oats, and 1⁄2 tsp cinnamon
  5. Pour the apple mixture into the baking dish
  6. Add in the diced, cold butter, and cut in with a pastry cutter, two forks, or your fingers to make butter into pea-size pieces
  7. Pour the crumble topping over the apples
  8. Bake 40-50 minutes, until the crumble topping is brown, and the apple mixture is bubbly
