Located just outside of Greensboro, NC on 500 beautiful acres, Reedy Fork Farm has been in the Teague family for five generations. Franklin converted the farm to dairy in 1950. George, who grew up on the farm, took over in 1980 leading the farm’s transition from conventional to certified organic in 2007 and joined the Organic Valley cooperative.
The Certified Organic label involves a lot more – what did the animal eat? Where was the animal kept? How did the farmer get rid of weeds?
One of the biggest challenges we faced was getting organic feed for these times that our herd couldn’t graze. We realized that the only way to have consistently high quality feed was to mill it ourselves. Our feed is made of certified organic grains from farmers that we personally know, many of them are our close neighbors.
Today, Reedy Fork Organic Farm is a healthy and diverse farm, with a long standing milking operation comprised of 100+ cows accompanied by 1,500 pasture-managed, egg-laying chickens — all certified organic. Free of antibiotics, no added hormones, and fed non GMO feed. So, when you purchase our feed, meat, or eggs, you’re purchasing the very best.
The bottom line is that food with the Certified Organic label gives you a lot more assurance of a healthy history. Isn’t that what you want on your fork?
