That Little Farm in the Country (thatlittlefarm.com; facebook.com/thatlittlefarm) is a small family farm located in Sidney, Illinois. We pride ourselves io raising delicious pasture-raised meats. We grow food that prioritizes quality, sustainability, and community above all else.
Our juicy and delicious whole and half chickens come from Red Rangers raised on green pastures in chicken tractors, where they are moved to have access to fresh grass and bugs daily, if not multiple times a day. Chicken tractors ensure that these chickens can become YOUR dinner, rather than the dinner of the many predators in and around our farm. Our chickens are supplemented with a non-GMO feed, sourced from a local feed mill. Additionally, as young chicks in their brooder prior to going on pasture, they are regularly fed live mealworms to promote their natural instincts to hunt insects. They are voracious when the chicken tractor is moved and new bugs are available en masse. Grass, bugs, and sunshine help to create a delicious chicken for you and your family to enjoy!
This fall, we will have our specialty pastured pork available. Our pigs are a specialty breed, Idaho Pasture Pigs, which were bred to eat primarily grass. They graze much like a goat or sheep would, consuming about 90% of their diet on pasture grass. Our IPPs are supplemented with a minimal amount of locally sourced non-GMO feed, to ensure they have proper protein and mineral intake. And our IPPs are also active environmentalists - helping to reduce food waste in the local community by accepting excess produce and bread from the local soup kitchen once or twice a week. That Little Farm in the Country's pasture-raised pork is dark, juicy, perfectly marbled, and absolutely delicious.
