Here at Franklin Citrus Farms in Statesboro, Georgia, we specialize in growing Satsuma Mandarins, Sweet Georgia Kisses (also called Kishu Mandarins), Ruby Red grapefruit, and a wide variety of other premium fresh-eating citrus. Our season typically runs from late October through early February, depending on weather patterns—making our citrus the perfect healthy snack for the whole family during fall and winter. They’re always a big hit around Thanksgiving and Christmas, and they make wonderful holiday gifts. From our farm to your table.
About our growing practices:
We farm conventionally but follow strong IPM (Integrated Pest Management) practices. IPM is a proactive approach to farming that focuses on preventing problems before they start by using the least-disruptive, most environmentally friendly methods first—things like beneficial insects, biological controls, careful monitoring, and only using stronger products when absolutely necessary.
We rely heavily on biological controls, especially in the spring, as our first line of prevention. Because we keep bees on the farm year-round, about 75% of the time we use bee- and beneficial-insect-friendly methods, turning to broad-spectrum insecticides only as a last resort or for isolated hot spots.
Most pest and disease pressure is managed through early-season biological applications, followed by summer sprays like JMS Stylet Oil, copper, or sulfur—all of which are commonly used in organic production. We also spray at night when pollinators are not active.
