The Queens Honey

Laurel, MD

About

We are a small apiary in Laurel MD, just south of the Patuxent Wildlife Center. The bees are worked by Kim, Mike and James Mehalick. Right now we have 100 hives, at the house and in six outyards. Our mating nucs are small hives, splits from our larger colonies with a new queen. We get no honey from a hive until it is in its second year.

Our outyards are located next to an organic Farm in Upper Marlboro; inside an organic forest garden in Bowie, on a blueberry/blackberry/sunflower farm in West River, in DC's ward 8, and next to Lake Artemesia in College park.

We are proud of our bees, and the fantastic honey they make. The color of honey changes as the nectar sources change throughout the season. Each year the honey will taste different. In preparing our honey we keep it as natural as possible. We simply filter our honey, never heat it. It is full of all the goodness from the bees.
